The California Jazz Foundation is pleased to announce “The Brazilian Connection,” the fifth episode of its new podcast series “Sonic Tonic a CJF Podcast.”

“The Brazilian Connection” features Porée’s in-depth interview with Isaias Elpes, a native of Minas Gerais, Brazil who has been based in Los Angeles since 2011. Widely celebrated as a touring and session bassist, Elpes has worked with such legends as Grammy and Oscar Award-winning artists Lee Ritenour, Dave Grusin, Tiago Iorc, Gloria Estefan, and Marcos Valle.

Porée’s second guest is world-renowned bassist Abraham Laboriel, who has played on over 4,000 recordings and soundtracks. “Guitar Player” magazine called him "the most widely used session bassist of our time" and he is included on “Bass Player” magazine's list of "The 100 Greatest Bass Players of All Time". Laboriel has mentored Elpes since his arrival in Los Angeles and will discuss the music of Brazil, its influence on the California music scene and Elpes’ own contributions to it.
