From a youth rounding up and shearing sheep on her family farm to backpacking around Latin America in her twenties, it can't be said Australia's ambassador to Colombia, Sophie Davies, was born with a silver spoon in her mouth.
Outside of giving us her opinion as to why Australia continues to attract many Colombian students, the ambassador tells us that while relations between the two countries go back some time, the opening of the embassy in 2017 has led to an upsurge in Australians doing business here.
On that front, as she enters what could be her final year in the role, one of her hopes is to see an Australian-Colombian Free Trade Agreement enacted.
And while an Australian country girl at heart, her Latino husband, dual-nationality children and years spent in this part of the world, all mean she can proudly say she feels "half Latina"!

Además de dar su opinión por qué Australia atrae a muchos estudiantes colombianos, la embajadora nos cuenta que mientras los dos países han tenido relaciones oficiales por muchos años, la apertura de la embajada en 2017 ha resultado en un aumento en los australianos de hacer negocios acá en Colombia.
En este sentido, como ella entra lo que podría ser su último año en el cargo, gustaría ver un Tratado de Libre Comercio firmado entre Australia y Colombia.
Y mientras la embajadora es una campesina australiana de corazón, su esposo Latino, la doble ciudadanía de sus hijos y los años que ha tenido en la región significan que ella puede decir con orgullo que siente "media latina".
