Then, working as a cameraman on adventurer Ross Edgley's Great British Swim project, he found inspiration to tackle these mental health issues by deciding to take on his own life-changing challenge.
With practically no mountaineering experience, Thomas set himself the task of climbing Colombia's ten highest mountains and volcanoes – in just 30 days.
Having recently returned to England, here he tells us how he got on. We hear how it wasn't just the physical aspect of the climbs he had to deal with. He also had to contend with dissident Farc rebels in one particular ascent
