Episode 18- Actor Anthony Carrigan, Alopecia Awareness Month (Part 1)

"... when I first got onstage, I actually felt like I could be anyone and I could actually just express this part of myself that had been kind of... too timid to actually be seen in the world.  When I got onstage it was like I had this freedom to be whoever, to do whatever..."

On this special Alopecia Awareness Month edition of Alopecia Connection, we are pleased to bring you a conversation with Emmy nominated actor Anthony Carrigan!

You might recognize Anthony from hit TV shows such as HBO's Barry, and FOX's Gotham, or the films Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020) and Fatherhood (2021).  Since this interview took place, the 4th and final season of Barry has been released.

From Boston, Massachusetts, Anthony began developing alopecia areata at the age of 3.  He describes how stares from strangers made him feel "exposed," leading Anthony to cover his patches as best he could.  Through acting, Anthony finally found an outlet where he truly felt he could express himself.

Having successfully managed alopecia with his early acting career, Anthony's alopecia areata began developing into alopecia universalis while filming his first TV show.  His new situation created several challenges but ultimately, as Anthony describes, opened new opportunities and perspectives to go along with his award recognizing Hollywood performances!
