Growing up, education was always seen as the path to success. It's how my parents grew up and it's what they instilled in us. This was a shared experience with many, if not most, of my Asian friends. Our parents pushed us to excel in school because they grew up under a system where better grades meant better opportunities upon graduation.

As John Spinks, senior adviser to the vice chancellor at the University of Hong Kong, said "Education is the driver of social mobility".

As I learn more about the roots of education in the United States; however, I start to wonder is education really the key to success?

Join me in this episode as I share about:

1. the objective of education in the U.S.;

2. is our cultural beliefs around education hurting us or helping us when it comes to Corporate America; and

3. some thoughts on when it's time to step outside of our cultural comfort zone, especially as Asian-American parents raising children in the U.S.
