Dr Romain Fathi is a Senior Lecturer in History at Flinders University, Adelaide, and remains an affiliated researcher at the Centre d'Histoire de Sciences Po in Paris.
His work focuses on the transnational dimension of war and its aftermath in European and Australian contexts. The First World War, war commemorations and Australian identity are my primary research interests.
We spoke about Australia's nation-building during the First World War and how the Aussie digger took a massive role in forming the collective image of who and what we see as Australian and Australian values even if some of it was a little made up.
Please have a listen. Romain is a brilliant man. He was fascinating to speak with, and his book Our Corner of the Somme is a must-read.
