Behavior & Tantrums in Young Children ~ Guest, Laurie Glickman

Let's Talk Wellness - with Host, Mara James

One experience of a tantrum with a young child is usually enough to send most people running (or at least make them want to run). This week, Mara welcomes Laurie Glickman for a conversation about things to know, and some practices to help with, unhappy behavior and tantrums in young children.

Laurie Glickman, MSW has been working with children ages 0 – 5 for the past twenty years.  She is currently an Infant Specialist/Child Development Specialist at ICEC in Irvine, California.  Her clients are infants and toddlers with a known or suspected developmental delay in one or more in these areas of development: fine motor, gross motor, adaptive skills, speech and language, cognition as well as social-emotional skills. The therapy includes play therapy, language stimulation techniques, as well as parent education and training.

Working with children requires a unique set of skills to connect with various personalities and age groups.  Laurie is confident that she has a level of intuition needed to understand the needs of these children and their families.  She knows that having a sense of empathy and sensitivity (depending on the physical and psychological background of the child and caregiver) along with behavioral management skills can only set these children and their families up for success.  Patience, creativity, enthusiasm, passion, compassion, and dedication are imperative in her practice.

You can reach Laurie at lrglick53@gmail.com for questions on your infant-toddler’s development or information on parenting/behavioral techniques as well as your child’s mental health.
