Am Barmherzigkeitssonntag blickt die römisch-katholische Kirche auf den auferstandenen Jesus Christus, der in seinem Tod und seiner Auferstehung Sünde und Tod besiegt hat. Seine Wundmale sind das bleibende Zeichen seiner Liebe, die er uns in seiner Barmherzigkeit geschenkt hat. Im gekreuzigten und auferstandenen Herrn scheint uns daher die Barmherzigkeit Gottes auf.
Der Barmherzigkeitssonntag wird am 2. Sonntag der Osterzeit gefeiert.
