“…a man who lived his life with a ferocious veracity… an inspiring and impossible to describe genius who never gave up or sold himself out. He passed away suddenly, December 2003. This piece was from Marty’s weekend experience in a British hospital as he recounts his detailed analysis and relationships with staff, patients and all with his unique charm and witty intellect.

Professor of Mathematics & Dr of Social Psychology from the Einstein School in New York, Marty Segal was the Jewish son of a Rabbi living in 60's America when everything was deemed possible. He went on to teach at the Sorbonne in Paris and I met him in the last 15 years of his life in Brighton in the UK. He was a writer and performer and incredible speaker able to entertain anybody with his quick wit, humour and educated deep insight into almost any subject. He recorded interviews with many people with his Sony Professional cassette machine and he recounted this personal weekend as a tape diary to his fellow writer John Heart when he was admitted to a British National Health Service (NHS) hospital in Brighton for Pneumonia. It's both a tour de force critique of the hospital system and a credit to those who work there. - Adrian Shephard. www.radio-on-berlin.com
