Speaker 1 (00:00):
I have one with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
It's up brow Mario Lopez, join me now on zoom
from Bachelor Nation. Jason Tarctic, Welcome to show Man.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
How you been, I bet good?

Speaker 3 (00:10):
Mari.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
How are you doing.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
I'm doing well. I'm doing well. Congrats. The new book
drops April second. Talk Money to Me. That's a fun title.
Tell me about it.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Yeah, So my background is in finance and banking. And
then all of a sudden, Mario, as you said Bachelor Nation,
my life life took a wild detour into the bachelor world.
So I was thinking about my two worlds of love
and money and realized there's a whole lot of books
on self help with love.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
And with money, but not many people have married the two.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
And all the statistics in America are showcasing us right
now that we are having a huge issue with managing
money in relationships and it's impacting every area of our life.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Absolutely. I feel like that's the number one causer up
there as far as getting divorced and relationships having a
lot of drama. How important is finance compatibility you think
when it comes to a relationship.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
Yeah, you know, I think it's huge.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
I think a big thing to think about with financial
compatibility is that your net worth is not your self worth.

Speaker 1 (01:10):
But these are things we need to be talking about.
You kind of already mentioned it, right.

Speaker 3 (01:13):
We know that money arguments right now are the number
two reason for divorce behind infidelity.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
But with that, we know that.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Over fifty percent of cohabitating or married couples are not
comfortable talking about money in the relationships. So what's interesting
is with so many things out there as it relates
to relationships, we know red flags.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
The problem with money.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
In relationships and financial compatibility is that we don't even
know the red flags because we're not even discussing them,
and there's so much deception.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
So it's a huge topic.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
And it has a huge impact on the success of
our relationships.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
You talk about the elite eight of finances, what's that?

Speaker 1 (01:51):
So the lead day?

Speaker 3 (01:52):
So back in my day, I was a banker and
I used to do underwriting, so I would determine who
got approved at which interest rate and termine the risk level.
So then what I did was I was like, Okay,
why don't I take the metrics we use in the
bank and apply them to this book so that any
reader at any financial level can understand the numbers they

(02:12):
have to improve so that the system of banking looks
at them like a low risk.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
So each chapter is a question.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
I always say, especially today's story shift, context changes, numbers
don't lie.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
So each chapter is a.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
Question, and the answers a number, and in those chapters
they'll tell you what the number means, how to improve them,
and how to talk about them with your loved ones.
So the Elite eight are the eight chapters with the
eight questions and the eight numbers.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
You've got to know about your personal finances. I like this.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
I like this a lot. You also got a podcast,
Trade in Secrets. Is it essentially an audio version of
the book.

Speaker 3 (02:48):
So a little bit of what we do there is
it's financial transparency. So you know, so many people look
up to you, Mario, like where you've been and how
you've gotten there. And I think that our system teaches
us to kind of high numbers not talk about them.
But I think if you're open about numbers and you
do it in a healthy way, people can really learn
about how you got to where you got and the
money that you lost and gained around the way, and

(03:10):
then we can have conversations around industry, and then we can
know how to negotiate for ourselves, and then we know
how to consume appropriately. So I take different celebrities from
people of all backgrounds, and athletes and musicians and sharks
from Shark Tank and everyone, we say where.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
Did you make money? Where'd you lose money?

Speaker 3 (03:26):
And the idea is that behind that number, there are
so many lessons that anybody listening can take away from
an apply to their professional or personalize.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
That's great because in school, unfortunately, they don't really teach
you a lot about finances, and you have to learn
your lessons, I think in life the hard way. So
congrats on the book. Have you been keeping up with
the currencies in the Bachelor?

Speaker 1 (03:48):
How do you think Joey's doing that? Yeah? I have
you know.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Real quick, I want to touch what you said, and
I'm gonna answer, because forty three percent of financial our
relationships right now experience financial infidelity, and in this book
I give it examples of people that learned the hard way.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
And I do think what you just said is so
critical because we're not taught this stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:06):
Unfortunately, the only way we are learning is by falling
on our face, and that's something we got to change.

Speaker 1 (04:11):
That's something with the book.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
But to the fun stuff Bachr Nation, I'm keeping up
with this season. I think this season has turned the
franchise around in a way that I am so excited about.
And I'm going to go on the record and I
think I'm going to say this with confidence. I think Joey,
I think he's the best Bachelor the entire franchise has
ever seen.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Bold statement. Okay, bold statement. And your boy pilot Pete
was mixing it up over on The Traders. Would you
be interested in doing that show?

Speaker 1 (04:42):
You know, he just this week got Trading Secrets.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
He came on and talked all about it, the numbers
behind it, the strategy, and what it did for his brand.
And I would go on that show in an absolute second.
But I think what would be cool is on that
show they always have network allies. So you have three
people from the Challenge, two people from Real Housewife, you know,
all different backgrounds. So I think they should throw like
two or three people on there from The Bachelor. I

(05:05):
think that could get extremely entertained.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
I think it could as well. Nice And what's up
with dating right now? Anyone special in your life.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Or you know, dating in twenty twenty four is pretty
it's interesting, it's been fun, it's been exciting. I think
because my last relationship was so public, I've kept things
a little bit more private. So what I'm saying is,
you know, I'm just kind of focused on what I'm
doing now, and I feel like when I'm comfortable to
talk about the dating life, I'll come back on the

(05:33):
Mario Lopez Show and talk about it.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
But for now, things things are pretty good. Man, fair enough.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Good for you, man, good for you. Well, listen, you
can pre order Talk Money to me wherever you get books. Jason,
thanks for hanging out.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Thank you so much for having me.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
All Right, brother, we'll see you soon.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Well, you've ben all the best you've got on it,
likewise with Mario Lopez
