Welcome to our two of Kentucky Sports Radio present it
by Stockton Mortgage. Now here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Walter Back I renumber two Kentucky Sports Radio, now happy
to be joined on the phone by Harlan County's Trent
Noah State champion finalist and now the newest commitment to
Kentucky basketball. Trent, first of all, congratulations on your decision
yesterday and talk to me about how you ended up

(01:27):
deciding to become a Wildcat.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Thank you, thank you. I appreciate it.

Speaker 5 (01:33):
I mean, I mean, it's it's Kentucky basketball, and what
can you say. I mean, growing up from from Kentucky
and being a Kentucky kid, that's just something that you
always dream of and whenever, whenever the opportunity came about,
I mean, there's just no way in the world that
I could even even think about passing it up. So
just just the honor to uh for my name to

(01:54):
even be even mentioned with with Kentucky basketball and the
and the pride that comes with Kentucky as well, I'm
being a Kentucky kid. It was just a no brainer
decision for me.

Speaker 4 (02:04):
So talk walk me through.

Speaker 3 (02:06):
When Mark Pope gets hired, do you at that point
think to yourself.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
Oh man, I'm watching this system play.

Speaker 3 (02:15):
This is the kind of thing I could play in like,
how did your mindset go and did it start when
Pope got hired.

Speaker 5 (02:23):
Well, I mean, there there was a lot of a
lot of factors that went into it. I mean, I
mean South Carolina handled it very well whenever my my
NL I release and stuff like that.

Speaker 4 (02:35):
But yeah, I mean there was.

Speaker 5 (02:37):
Just a lot of things that went into it, and
it's just crazy how it all works out. And I'm
just I just kind of took took a leap and
took a chance and just got into me up at Kentucky,
and I just couldn't be more grateful for it.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
You know when when you guys were playing in the
state tournament. Uh, during during the semi finals and finals,
I walked over to the Harlan County section, and everybody
I talked to was like, man, we gotta get this
kid to Kentucky. What can you do to get this
kid to Kentucky. I said, well, I can't do anything
to get him to Kentucky. But I know where you're from,

(03:10):
everybody there has to be excited, and you gotta be
excited about that, am I right?

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Yes, sir, I mean for sure.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
I mean just just waking up this morning and putting
on a UK sweatshirt. It just it was really just
just a special moment knowing that that that's where I'm
gonna be, and walking into school and just seeing everybody
in Kentucky blue with with their gear on. It really
is just special. It's kind of hard to even put

(03:37):
into words. But there's something special about eastern Kentucky and
about Harlan County that'll definitely be carried to Kentucky basketball
already more than what it is.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
See, I love that. That's great.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
And have you ever had poke salad? You know, we've
been there enough a number of times at the festival.
Have you ever actually eaten it?

Speaker 5 (03:59):
I've never actually eat and I've been there a time
or two though.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Smart man, stay away from it.

Speaker 4 (04:05):
What's good? What are you talking about? All right? So
talk to me about.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
You know, you played in the finals against Travis Perry
and Lime County.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
I know you know the guy. Now you're gonna play
on the same team.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Tell me about your relationship with him?

Speaker 5 (04:20):
Yeah, I mean Travis, he's an exceptional guy and he
comes from an exceptional family. So we played together some
this summer and then we got to compete to compete
against each other in the State finals. But the good
thing is, I mean, we was talking and it's just
now that we're on the same side, we're working toward
that same goal. We're trying to hang number nine together

(04:41):
and to finally be on the same team.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
It really is special.

Speaker 5 (04:45):
That's that's one of the first people that that I
texted after and I was just super I'm just super
excited to get to work with him.

Speaker 3 (04:52):
You know, I'm a fellow thirteenth Region or down there,
and we the last player we had from the thirteenth
Region was Richie and then there was a huge gap
and you had read and those are two kind of
legendary guys. I mean, Richie Farmer and Reed Shephard. Those
are two of the best high school players, both Kentucky players.
How does it feel to be kind of next in

(05:13):
that line.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
Yeah, it really is super humbling, and it's awesome to
even be mentioned in the realm of those guys because
they're they're exceptional, exceptional talents and and just what Reid,
what Reid did last year, it was just it was
just super cool, super cool to see and just just
what he's done for for the state of Kentucky and

(05:37):
just being from Kentucky. How how he went in year
one as a freshman and contributed with was just amazing
to see and I just couldn't be more happy for him.

Speaker 4 (05:45):
I'm gonna ask you to do something. You know.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
You mentioned Harlan is special, and I agree with you
about that. I think there's probably not many more places
that are more Eastern Kentucky than Harlem. There's a lot
of this this state that's listening that doesn't know anything
about Harlan. So if you were to describe Harland to
the people all around the state, what would you say? Man?

Speaker 5 (06:07):
I could talk about Harlan for a while, but if
I if I, if I had to sum it all up,
I would say it's full of the most passionate, passionate people.
They're just the the love that that they show me
and and are any of our high school team this year,
and the love that they show Kentucky sports and Kentucky basketball,
They're they're just as passionate as they come.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Have you ever seen a person that has better hair
than your teammate the guard there with that long hair,
that's the best hair I've ever seen in my life.

Speaker 4 (06:36):
I'm gonna be honest with you.

Speaker 5 (06:38):
Yeah, he need, he needs some kind of like head
and shoulders, uh commercial or something like Troy fulhamo or something.

Speaker 3 (06:44):
You think he's gonna keep that forever because it's at
when he plays it just would flow. Did it ever
get in your face? Did you ever run into it accidentally?
Garden him in practice?

Speaker 5 (06:55):
Maybe as time or two he's had to gotten immune
to it or something. He just he just kind of
I guess he just sees right through it. It's something
else though.

Speaker 4 (07:05):
I'll finish with this.

Speaker 3 (07:06):
When you talk to Mark Pope, a lot of fans
are very excited for the passion of him as a coach,
and I can hear you saying a lot of the
same things. He says, what do you think, Kentucky fans
and you where we're gonna get now with the new
coach Mark Pope?

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Yeah? I mean coach Pope.

Speaker 5 (07:22):
He's an exceptional, exceptional guy, and he's an exceptional coach
on top of that. And I just know that Kentucky
fans already love him, but whenever, whenever the season comes around,
they're gonna love him even more. It's just it's just
something about he knows the Kentucky way and me being
from Kentucky. I've grown up around Kentucky. We've had football

(07:45):
season tickets for sixty two years now in our family,
So I mean just growing up Arounvenue.

Speaker 3 (07:49):
You've had football season tickets for sixty two years your family.

Speaker 5 (07:55):
Yeah, there, we've been going.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
We've been going a while now.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Wow, that's amazing.

Speaker 3 (08:00):
Well, I have to tell you at the state tournament,
the Campbell County Game and the evangel Christian Game, where
you know, as good a performances as people who've been
going have seen with you, it's very exciting for all
of us that you're coming.

Speaker 4 (08:12):
Good luck and we will see you here in Lexington soon. Yes, sir,
I appreciate it. I can't wait to get down to campus.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
There you go, Trent Noah, the University from Harlan County
going to the University of Kentucky.

Speaker 4 (08:23):
Appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (08:23):
I think every single person listening has that little spot
in your heart.

Speaker 4 (08:28):
Gotta love it.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
That knowing that this morning that kid got up and
put on a UK shirt, walked into his school with
everybody else wearing UK blue applaud They were happy that
he was going to South Carolina, but now he's going
to their school.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
The fact that his family has tickets for sixty two years,
and literally the folks here couldn't hear what he said.
But the fact that he gets up that he says,
you know, you dream of doing this and it gets
to happen.

Speaker 4 (08:56):
Put everything else aside.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
I mean, you gotta have dudes from all of the
but you're not gonna convince me that a team can't
be better by having that on it.

Speaker 4 (09:05):
That heart right, like somebody that believes that drew like that.

Speaker 3 (09:07):
That matters, and they're gonna we're gonna have two of
them next year from east and west, from my region
in your region like that.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
There's value in that. There just has to be.

Speaker 6 (09:17):
Yeah, Freddie Uh talked to He's throw this on the
board last night. I was excited to add some harlan
and he pointed out, we got two freshmen with County
at the end of their school.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
It's nice to add that again.

Speaker 6 (09:26):
Been a while probably too, But hearing that about the
football tickets, I already loved him a lot. I wanted
that kid since the day Pope took the job. Now
knowing that he's got family and he's been in those
bleachers watching some football decades of decades long, having those seats.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
That makes me love him even more annoying. He's one
of us.

Speaker 3 (09:43):
I'm happy for him, but I'm also really happy for
the people in Harlan County.

Speaker 4 (09:48):
YEP.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
You know that's a if you watched Wrestlers, you see
we do. There's like ten minutes there and me and
some other people talk about Harlan County. That's a place
that deserves to have a kid like this represent them
on a large scale. Probably no place in America has
been more hurt by the decline of the coal industry
than Harlan County. I'm not sure there is one. And

(10:10):
the fact that that place now gets to have a
kid from their school who takes them to the championship
game of the tournament, who gets to play at the
University of Kentucky, I just think it's awesome, right. I
think it's one of the It makes me really really happy.

Speaker 4 (10:27):
All the way around.

Speaker 1 (10:28):
Sometimes stories right themselves, and this is another Walt Disney
story just happening right in front of us. The kid
that's gonna get to grew up in the mountains of
Harlan County, Kentucky, gonna get to play for.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
Any if he ends up really good. You know they're
gonna be playing. You'll never leave Harland alive on after
some men. You know that's coming at some point, Drew.

Speaker 6 (10:47):
If things go well, I was just about to say
that Patty Lovelace is gonna hit so hard in Reperena.
They've even played it in football games with out of connection.
I think one of the pitchers has it as a
walkout so for baseball. But now we have a true
Harlan County Arland County and coming. Gotta work that into
the repert experience.

Speaker 4 (11:04):
That's gonna be awesome, right, Shannon, Who's up next?

Speaker 2 (11:06):
Frankie?

Speaker 4 (11:07):
Frankie thirty seconds go? Hey, I just had a couple
of questions.

Speaker 7 (11:12):
Was Tread the kid that you said would commit to
Kentucky if he ended up in the transfer portal? And
what's going on with the Mamba jersey sponsorship? Is that
something that was just Caliperry or is that still gonna
happen to Kentucky?

Speaker 4 (11:26):
You know I answer that question, I do not know. Honestly,
I'm not sure.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
As far as the no, Noah was not the player
I was I was talking about. It was an acc
player and I don't think he ended up getting in
the portal. So and I think once that became unlikely,
they really put some attention on that chas Lanier, kid
from North Florida who's down to Kentucky and Tennessee. It's
a battle between the Cats and the balls for a

(11:52):
really talented guy averaged nineteen points a game last year.

Speaker 4 (11:56):
How you think that's gonna play.

Speaker 6 (11:57):
Out, Drew, You know it's I want him Jackson Robinson
too got ended up with either one. But I certainly
now that it's down to balls, that added some points
in want and Chaslin ear to keep him from going
there and having to play against because.

Speaker 4 (12:08):
You don't want to play against him, right, I mean,
they's got.

Speaker 6 (12:10):
Some flashy highlights. Now I needs to prove it at
a higher level of basketball. But uh, the dude could
certainly play.

Speaker 3 (12:16):
Yeah, So I hope it works out for uh, for
us with him because I think he can what we
were just talking about, who would be the leading scorer.
He's a dude that can answer that question if he
ends up coming here. You know, school is almost out ry,
it is, but the deals are just getting.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
Started at Don Franklin, tell me.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
That head on into your local Don Franklin dealership at
Don Franklin Auto dot Com.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
They have a local owner.

Speaker 4 (12:38):
How about that? How about that they treat you like family,
like family. That's exactly right.

Speaker 3 (12:42):
The Don frank Franklin staff will help you find the
car that meets your needs from the dealerships across the state.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
My final show before I go to Europe.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Will be at at Don Franklin. Nice.

Speaker 4 (12:51):
Is it? Which one?

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Is it?

Speaker 4 (12:52):
Somerset? Mario, you're supposed to have this?

Speaker 6 (12:55):
Come on, Mario Harriom, Come on, he's still in dry
Queen waiting for his food.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
Yeah, either way, go to Don Franklin Auto, Somerset, Don
Franklin Auto dot Com. It's Don Franklin, driven by Family.
We'll take a break and come back. This is Kentucky
Sports Radio. Welcome back Tucky Sports Radio. Couple up in
lines eight five, nine, two, eight oh twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 4 (13:19):
Don't let the buzzer scare you.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
I think some people get scared by the buzzer and
they would call him buzzer day. Getting buzzed by Shannon
is part of like life. It should be an honor
to get buzzed by Shannon. You know, it's it's like
and that means Shannon, Well, it means thirty seconds a bet.

Speaker 4 (13:39):
Ultimately, yes, ultimately that's what it means. How are you, ladies,
where are you from?

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Lexington? And what it's your birthday? Happy birthday day, Happy birthday?

Speaker 4 (13:51):
All right? I like that?

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Uh? Trent Noah's grandfather played football at Kentucky. His name
was Perky Bryant Perk. He is a great name. You
don't see enough kids nowaday He's adults named Perky Drew no.

Speaker 4 (14:04):
And I looked it up.

Speaker 6 (14:05):
He played on the nineteen sixty two team known as
the then thirties. Yes, of course, not thirty eight, then thirty.
They went from eighty eight to thirty players in the
one season.

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Bradshaw scared all them away, right like they he was.
He was too he was too yelling. That's not a
word sent it's he was too yelling. But but yes,
he was too yelling.

Speaker 6 (14:29):
The internet says his brutal methods. Then the roster.

Speaker 4 (14:32):
Yes, there's a book about it.

Speaker 3 (14:34):
Yep, he was one of the thirty nine two eight oh,
twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 4 (14:38):
Let's talk about some coaches that.

Speaker 3 (14:41):
We should be glad are not coaching here for their
nil attitudes all right, We'll start with a Boise State coach.
Boise State coach comes out and says, we're not giving
we're banning all nil for freshman players.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
They can't get it.

Speaker 3 (14:56):
He was like, they have to play her for a
year and then if they do well, they'll get in Aisle. Well,
first of all, my message for that youngster, for that
man is, uh, get ready to get sued because you
can't do that. You can't ban them from getting an ile.
You could decide not to give them money for a collective,

(15:17):
but you are not allowed to ban people for giving
them from making money. The court has said that. So
you're gonna lose that. But secondly, how you go to
recruit would that be in your attitude?

Speaker 4 (15:30):
Right?

Speaker 1 (15:30):
That's it. You got kids wanting to comes to your
school and you're not gonna offer them a thing. And
maybe it's South Dakota State or somebody right next door, like, okay, look,
we'll give you a couple thousand dollars. Who are you picking?
I'm picking the school. It's gonna give me some money.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
It also maybe though they don't have any money and
it's just easy to go, we're not giving any money.
As a matter of principle. But I don't think that
that strategy is gonna work for Boise's day.

Speaker 6 (15:52):
If you're an athletic director and your new coach is
saying this, are you allowed to just step in be
like you know what, this isn't gonna work for it,
Like you're fired for having that idea.

Speaker 4 (16:01):
It's a terrible idea. You're not gonna be able to
recruit like that.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
You can't, and it's also illegal.

Speaker 4 (16:05):
You're gonna get sued. You can't.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
I mean, if they look at an athlete and say
you cannot get an endorsement deal, they will get sued,
period and they will lose.

Speaker 4 (16:17):
So I don't know. I just found it. And by
the way, that statement.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
Will be used in court as the intentional violation of
their their rights.

Speaker 6 (16:26):
If I were just the school and the IDA, I'd
be like, hey man, just keep it down. That's not
helping us at all.

Speaker 3 (16:30):
And then Brian Kelly at LSU says we're not gonna
buy any players. If you want to come here and play,
you just have to come play first of all. I
t LSU number one. I don't believe that, not a
word of it. I don't believe they're not buying players.
Of course they're buying players. If they're not buying players,
they're not getting players. So that's number one. Number two,

(16:51):
what are you talking about, Like, if he really took
the view you're not buying buying players, LSU will.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Lose, like they'll lose periods.

Speaker 3 (17:02):
So like you can't these people are fighting against It's
like people who didn't want cell phones going I'll never
use a cell phone.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Yes you will.

Speaker 3 (17:11):
If you want to like work in the business world,
at some point you will run.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
We've we've seen these different programs and coaches kind of
slowly warm up to the idea. But man, it's we're
three or four years into this now, Brian Kelly. I
mean it's and you're at LSU. You got to get
top quality players at LSU.

Speaker 3 (17:27):
At LSU, you don't have the option to not get
to go, you know, not go get players that would
be the equivalent of like you know, U can't saying
that or North Carolina for basketball or basketball.

Speaker 4 (17:41):
Like you can't.

Speaker 1 (17:42):
You're at LSU.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
You're LSU, Dude, do you want to compete or not?

Speaker 6 (17:46):
Yeah, they need a caliber player that will definitely demand
a little bit of money. Also, he now has You've
probably been paying players long before in IL.

Speaker 3 (17:55):
LSU had in IL before even anyone knew that was
a thing.

Speaker 6 (17:58):
Before we were alive, they were doing innile. So I
think it might be in their school motto we pay players.
I just also just change that.

Speaker 3 (18:06):
I hate when coaches like Brian Kelly, who left Notre
Dame to go to LSU for more money, get mad
at players for wanting to go get more money. What
is more hypocritical than that Brian Kelly left his team.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Before a bowl game?

Speaker 1 (18:24):
Yeah, right right?

Speaker 3 (18:26):
They still had a bowl game to play and he left.
I don't know how Brian Kelly has the audacity to
say anything.

Speaker 4 (18:33):
Fran No, like.

Speaker 1 (18:35):
Drew said, if you're the athletic director or your assistant coaches,
you're recruiting some of these kids. I'm telling my coach,
shut up, don't be saying that. Man. We want try
to get these a great quality type player. We're gonna
have to pay a little bit for him.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Yeah, A five nine, twenty two eighty seven. Who's up next?

Speaker 2 (18:49):
Bob and Jamestown.

Speaker 4 (18:50):
Bob and Jamestown. Thirty seconds go, Matt in an hour
and a half, the Reds are gonna go back on
the field after dropping seven games.

Speaker 7 (18:59):
What is it don a take for them to get
back and get the put the wheels back on the
big red machine.

Speaker 4 (19:07):
I mean, the answer is that they just stink, And
I appreciate the call. They stink.

Speaker 3 (19:11):
And I was sitting here watching them last night during trivia,
like while people were answering questions. They just they stink.
And I they scored three runs last night. It's the
most runs they've scored during the seven game losing streak.
Will Benson.

Speaker 4 (19:28):
And I like Will Benson, but Will Benson leads the
majors in strikeouts.

Speaker 3 (19:33):
It's first and third, one out, we're down one. All
he's got to do to make contacts, make contact. He's
so fast, he's not gonna get doubled up. Just put it,
make contact, and of course he strikes out again. He's
hitting like one oh four. They finally got rid of
Martini and Bubba.

Speaker 4 (19:53):
Yeah, but they stink.

Speaker 6 (19:56):
I was looking for the Bubba unders on DraftKings didn't say.
I didn't know he was already gone, but I'd followed
your advice on that for a few games.

Speaker 1 (20:02):
Hell, we talked about it's not gonna get any easier
for the Reds. They've got the Dodger Series. They've got
another series, I think with San Francisco.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
I've paid for three or four days of my Europe
trips betting against the red No, I'm being serious. Every
night I'm gonna I'm gonna bet against them today. I'm
gonna keep betting against him until they win.

Speaker 4 (20:20):
Their favorite today? Are they Hunter Green? I don't. It's
not Hunter Green's fault. We can't hit. You can't score
a run.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
It doesn't got five guys in the lineup that are
under two hundred, hitting under two hundred, you're not gonna win. Lot.

Speaker 4 (20:34):
We hit Espinal fifth last night.

Speaker 1 (20:37):
What's his batting average?

Speaker 4 (20:38):
One seventy and he was hitting fifth? Oh, who's new?

Speaker 3 (20:43):
You'll be back soon, Savannah, Savannah, go ahead, thirty seconds.

Speaker 8 (20:47):
Good morning, first time, long time?

Speaker 4 (20:49):
Who are what's oh?

Speaker 8 (20:51):
You know, same old. So First, I wanted to take
congratulations to your mom on a graduation that is awesome. Second,
I heard a rumor that Ryan Lemon and his team
won in trivia last night, or at least made it
to the finals. Is that right?

Speaker 1 (21:06):
Yes, whoever you are, thank you for bringing that up.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
So here was the here's what happened. I appreciate to
call Ryan Lemon. We took four teams last night.

Speaker 4 (21:14):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (21:15):
Ryan Lemon's team came in sixth, but two of the
teams had already qualified.

Speaker 4 (21:20):
So Ryan is in the finals.

Speaker 1 (21:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (21:22):
He literally was the last team to get in the
very last team to get in, and they got in
because Hubby's daughter knew that Beyonce had had the most Grammys.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
Yeah, she helped us on that final question too. We
wanted to put Parks in record. She's like, no, Parks
and Record only had like four or five seasons.

Speaker 4 (21:40):
Let's try a trivia question for you. I drew.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
This was from last night, Good Cali Perry. Who are
the eight players that played their whole Kentucky career for
Cal Perry that have the most points but were not drafted,
not counting.

Speaker 6 (21:57):
The guys points not drafted most.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Points not drafted in their Caliperry career. That Ryan knows
the answer because he was here, do you.

Speaker 6 (22:06):
But you're gonna take me a while to even think
of someone that wasn't drafted.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
Feel free to jump in throw out.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
I think there's one thing you should know very easily,
wasn't drafted. You all in the audience. Anybody want to gass?
Dominique was ninth. He's actually not one of them. Darius
Miller was drafted. Derek Willis is one. There you go,
you got one, go.

Speaker 1 (22:30):
Man.

Speaker 6 (22:30):
I'm really can't even think of anyone that wasn't drafted.
It was any obvious one.

Speaker 4 (22:37):
Nobody gotta get. How quickly we forget Oscar she Bay?
I was just thinking him. Was he not a second
round pick?

Speaker 3 (22:44):
No?

Speaker 6 (22:45):
I thought he was picked. Well, there's one. I have
no others.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
Anyone want to gas? Do you know Mario? You weren't here?
Do you want to guess one? Boy? You are terrible
at this.

Speaker 6 (22:56):
We're trying not to do dead air here.

Speaker 3 (22:57):
I don't have Oscar she Bay, Aaron Harrison, Alex Poythris,
Isaiah Brisco.

Speaker 4 (23:04):
That's a surprise. We didn't.

Speaker 3 (23:05):
We did not get Brisco, Jacob Topping, Ashton Hagens, Dereck Willis,
and the final one was davy On Mintz.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
Not one of those people. Brain.

Speaker 4 (23:16):
Yeah, yeah, well there you go. Good question.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
When you know, maybe cow was right. When you don't
get drafted, nobody remembers you existed. Unfortunately, we'll take a
break right back to KSR TJ.

Speaker 8 (23:26):
Smith, personal injury attorney, called TJ.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
He'll make them pay.

Speaker 2 (23:30):
Now more of Kentucky Sports Radio presented by Stockton Mortgage.
Here's Matt Jones.

Speaker 3 (23:34):
So apparently Bob and Jamestown broke KSR. We we went
off the air right at during his call, but we're
back now. I think so. Uh, you all didn't miss anything.
Me just raning about the Reds and then doing a
trivia question. They didn't get into the answer.

Speaker 4 (23:48):
It's totally good, so don't worry about it.

Speaker 3 (23:51):
A five' nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven
Draft Kings. We have a KSR parlay. I need you
to put some Okay, what else?

Speaker 1 (24:00):
What is it?

Speaker 4 (24:00):
We're doing an NBA when it's on the DraftKings App.
I just bet it.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
It is the Calves to cover, the MAVs to cover,
and the Cleveland Boston under. Okay, already aves MAVs and
under and it's plus five thirty.

Speaker 4 (24:15):
We just put it up.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Okay, it's a long one.

Speaker 4 (24:18):
It's a long one. You can win big bucks.

Speaker 3 (24:19):
I feel it Dogs tonight, I feel it. Go to
DraftKings dot com. Dkapp promo code is KSR UK Baseball.
The pre the NCAA tournament. Uh so you know bracketology,
the big one is D one baseball dot Com.

Speaker 4 (24:36):
We're the number one overall seedy.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
Overall number one seed. How about that.

Speaker 4 (24:41):
Number one overall seed. The reason is we beat Arkansas
beat them from Texas.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
A and M lost their series as well, so they
put us as the number one seed. We have more
wins against squad one teams than any team in the country.

Speaker 1 (24:55):
How about that at this point? So what they're at
Florida this weekend and they come back here to wrap
it up, gets Vandy next weekend.

Speaker 3 (25:01):
So at Florida. Florida's got one of the best hitters
in the country. Like the two best hitters in the
country play in the SEC, but like not for good
teams Florida and Georgia. Have you seen the story about
the Georgia baseball player. No, I want to say, I
think he has forty three home runs?

Speaker 4 (25:17):
What? WHOA? Yeah he has.

Speaker 3 (25:19):
I think he hit home runs in like seven straight games.
He's gonna be a number one pick in the draft.
He's hitting like four sixty eight. It's pretty good. No,
I'm is anybody in Georgia. Yeah, his name's like Condon
he's gonna be a number one picking the draft. He's
hitting like four sixty eight and I think he may
be wrong, but he has like forty three home runs
this year. So anyway we play Florida, Yeah, what if

(25:41):
we're the number one overall seed in the baseball tournament?

Speaker 1 (25:46):
Didn't see that one coming. You know, we think about
it for football, but we never think about baseball. Maybe
being a number one overall seed, that's incredible.

Speaker 3 (25:53):
As long as we don't collapse, We're gonna never have
to leave Lexington to go to the College World Series.
Like you could go to the College World Series and
never have to play anywhere except Kentucky Prout Park. It's
gonna drive me nuts if I'm gone when they make
the College World Series.

Speaker 1 (26:12):
But that's on my bucket list, and this would be
the time we could do it. And you're not gonna,
but you're gonna go, right if they make it.

Speaker 4 (26:18):
You guys gotta go.

Speaker 1 (26:19):
We haven't talked about it.

Speaker 4 (26:21):
You should no, I mean, like, take Mario, you guys.

Speaker 6 (26:25):
I mean, I'm not telling you what Shannon trip, Why
can't you go?

Speaker 4 (26:29):
Be gone?

Speaker 6 (26:30):
What's happening?

Speaker 4 (26:32):
You and Mario should go? Just the two of you
go have.

Speaker 1 (26:36):
Fun, go to dairy Queen on the way.

Speaker 4 (26:38):
But no, I mean, wouldn't it be amazing if they
finally are able to make the trip.

Speaker 1 (26:41):
Like I said, it's a bucket list thing for me
to get trying to get to go the pilling.

Speaker 4 (26:44):
Else would you go? Except now?

Speaker 1 (26:46):
Then this was what I'm waiting on.

Speaker 6 (26:47):
You get take down the record LSU set for shots
at that bar.

Speaker 4 (26:51):
You got more money than the gory. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (26:54):
See, there you go, you two and Mario just the
boys take Billy Billy boys.

Speaker 4 (27:00):
You all go. It would be be quite a trip.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
I would love it.

Speaker 6 (27:04):
We got to get there first. I'm excited about the
games here, as you said, being able to host all
of them. That just having the region last year was
so much fun. Yeah, to have even more games to
make the most of that, I'm looking forward to that.

Speaker 3 (27:14):
I also say, everybody, if you've not been to a
UK baseball game, that series against Vanderbilt, it's almost unless
we get swept by Florida, then that series against Vanderbilt
is gonna be to play for the SEC title.

Speaker 4 (27:27):
Kentucky's only won it once in its history.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
They've only won it one time, and they're gonna be
at home against a Vandy team that is not as
good as they usually are, with a chance to win the.

Speaker 4 (27:38):
SEC on your home field, on your home field, like
not this weekend, but next weekend.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
People got to try to make it that that would
be an awesome environment.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Yeah, because they'll have a celebration of some sort if
it does happen right there after the game.

Speaker 4 (27:50):
So it's doable, definitely doable. It's in their hands now.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
There are only one game up on Arkansas and one
game up on Tennessee.

Speaker 4 (27:58):
So like they got two teams they have to worry
about here and Tennessee owns the time right Tennessee.

Speaker 6 (28:03):
As exciting as it would be to get to Omaha,
winning the SEC in baseball is pretty dang hard to do.
And that is right in front of them for the taking,
I think for the first time as an outright I believe.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Yeah, for seven long time.

Speaker 3 (28:14):
In the NCAA tournament projections, seven of the top sixteen
teams in the country are in the SEC. Crazy, Seven
of the top sixteen seeds in the entire country in
the SEC.

Speaker 4 (28:25):
Who's next? Michael, Michael, go ahead and Michael thirty seconds. Hey,
this is about nil.

Speaker 9 (28:32):
Can the do the incentive for the players, like for
every football like say five hundred dollars for every non
conference they win.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
Can't do that, not allowed to do it, and it's stupid.
But the NCAA has a rule you can't give any
incentives for winning. You can't give any incentives for sacks
or points or anything, which is stupid. Like again, the NCAA,
the rules are as dumb as they could be. Right now,

(29:02):
they ban you from doing any denile money for things
that matter, and you can make an unlimited amount of
money for doing nothing.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Nose.

Speaker 4 (29:17):
How stupid that is. Yeah, I appreciate the call.

Speaker 3 (29:20):
Similarly, you can sign for any amount of money, but
the NCAA forbids you from having a contract, right so,
like you can't sign a player to a contract, even
though now that would make a lot of sense. Yes,
the NCAA bans. The NCAA has. It's the dumbest rules.

(29:43):
I mean, think about how much better this would be
if you could promise a player instead of a million dollars,
you could say to them, you get two hundred thousand dollars,
but if we win, if we go the final four,
you get eight hundred thousand more.

Speaker 4 (29:59):
Dollars that make a lot more sense. Yes it would,
it may, but NCAA doesn't let you do that, Drew,
and I think that is so stupid.

Speaker 6 (30:07):
We're gonna look back and when this gets cleaned up,
and these guys that are transferring every year right now
and just double dipping on all this, they will have
taken advantage of when things were just a little too
messy and unorganized, and we're look at how crazy it
was some of the dollars these guys are making, just
not for their name, image of LIKESNSE, just to go.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
To a school in the NBA.

Speaker 3 (30:26):
Every seven or eight years, they redo their television deals,
and agents have figured out that the best time for
your client to be a free agent is the year
after the new television deal kicks you because the teams
the salary cap goes up. The teams all have a
lot more money, and they get antsy to spend it, right,
They just want to They just decide to spend it quickly.

(30:48):
So dudes get way overpaid the first year after a
TV deal.

Speaker 4 (30:53):
This is what this is right now.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
Yeah, with nil being just made legal, the dudes that
are going right now are getting way overpaid and in
a couple of years, I withdrew it won't be like that.

Speaker 4 (31:06):
But these guys are the winners.

Speaker 1 (31:07):
So you can't blame the players. I think they're trying
to take advantage of the system the way it is
right now.

Speaker 4 (31:12):
Yeah, who's next?

Speaker 2 (31:13):
Pickleball?

Speaker 3 (31:14):
Paul Paul eight five nine twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 9 (31:17):
Go ahead, Two things, Matt Outside Dillingham and Shephard. What
players that were on the team and recruits coming in
would probably not fit into Mark Pope's system anyway? And
the other day on the air, you said you weren't
a very good ping pong player, so thank god you
don't play pickleball.

Speaker 3 (31:34):
I didn't say I wasn't a good pan You're a
good ping pong, very good at ping pong. I'm not,
you know, I don't play it every day. But what
was your first part of your question?

Speaker 1 (31:43):
He's already gone.

Speaker 2 (31:45):
Which player wouldn't fit in with Pope's system like from
last year? Yeah, yeah, they wouldn't have fit into the
system anyway.

Speaker 3 (31:55):
Ugo, Ugo would not be a good fit for Pope's system.

Speaker 4 (32:02):
I'm not sure if uh.

Speaker 1 (32:05):
I thought big Z would have been a good fit.

Speaker 4 (32:06):
Big Z would have been a good fit. I think fit.

Speaker 3 (32:09):
I don't know if like Jordan Burks would have been
a good fit. I'm not sure if a Do would
have been a great fit. I think he'd like to
have him because he's such a good defender, but I
don't know that that's now.

Speaker 4 (32:19):
But I think Z would have been a good fit.

Speaker 3 (32:22):
I think Trey Mitchell from last year's team is and
that dude like Antonio Reeves, would have scored nine hundred
points in this in this team, I mean Reeves in
this system where you're running motions to get guys open,
he might have scored forty a game.

Speaker 6 (32:42):
But cal hit us with the all did you see
what I did? And we were trying to guess, and
it was Mitchell playing that high post. He had like
five assists in the second half. I think you see
a lot more of that from Trey Mitchell if he
were in that system.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
But Edwards or Wagner, those are the other two.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
Not great.

Speaker 3 (33:02):
Maybe Wagner because you could get to the I don't
think Edwards would. I mean, you got to be able
to shoot with Pope's system, if you're the one through four,
you got to be able to shoot, and you got
to be able to move, like you got to be
able to move. You can't stand still, and with Cal,
a lot of it's standing still and using your athleticism.

Speaker 4 (33:23):
So a guy who's really athletic.

Speaker 3 (33:25):
But isn't a great shooter or doesn't necessarily move the
whole time, it's not, in my opinion.

Speaker 4 (33:31):
A great fit.

Speaker 6 (33:32):
One thing I'm excited to see, and you saw a
little bit of it in the Sweet sixteen, is Travis
Perry's battery does not seem to drain. He is constantly
running around the court. We saw when they were running
out the clock with the ball. I'm ready to see
how he looks in Pope's offense moving without the ball,
because that's a guy defenders are gonna be guessed trying
to keep up with him.

Speaker 3 (33:50):
The only dude he has on the roster right now
he has I mean, just look at how he built
the roster. He has two bigs that are more station
and Garrison and Williams. They're gonna play the five and
they're gonna be maybe sometimes at the at the free
throw line, sometimes down low. But the other four dudes
are just moving. And you know, some people said, well,

(34:12):
we don't have enough bigs I think you'll see him
go with four guards or four guard forwards a lot
of the time. Maybe not guards, but a guy like
Colin Chandler will play the four for him.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
So right, you think Andrew calarr can play the four, he'll.

Speaker 3 (34:26):
Start at the full Yeah, but if he goes out,
it wouldn't shot me if sometimes they're playing Colin.

Speaker 4 (34:32):
Chandler or Trent Noah.

Speaker 3 (34:34):
At the four, because that's how they're gonna They're gonna
want dudes who can move the five. Think about the
dude he had at BYU that went to Louisville Khalifa.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Well he wasn't really he didn't move.

Speaker 4 (34:47):
A lot, but he was a good passer. Right, that's
what they'll use. And then Williams and Garrison they'll use
to attack the boards and defense.

Speaker 6 (34:54):
And Pope didn't have a player with more than thirty
minutes last year. We're used to seeing guys yeah get
used a lot. And how Kentucky West for fifteen years.
You're just gonna see a lot of those bodies and
different rotations being used throughout the game.

Speaker 3 (35:04):
Hey, did you know the reason that Kentucky has some
of the fastest horses in the world is the same reason.

Speaker 4 (35:09):
Cornbread hemp has the fastest hemp.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
I didn't really for not the fact the finest him.

Speaker 2 (35:15):
They are quick with turning that stuff out though they
can do it quickly.

Speaker 3 (35:18):
The limestone rock bed underneath Kentucky makes our soil rich
with minerals, and that feeds the horses but also grows
the hemp.

Speaker 1 (35:28):
There you go, there's the connection.

Speaker 4 (35:29):
That's right. Hemp crops are like horses. Kentucky proud.

Speaker 3 (35:34):
Go to cornbreadhimp dot com slash KSR, enter your code
KSR thirty percent off your order.

Speaker 4 (35:39):
It's cornbread hemp. We'll take a break. Be right back.
It's Tucky Sports Radio. Hark I back.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
It is Tucky Sports Radio A five nine, two eight,
twenty two eighty seven. Sorry to the folks on the
stream for WLAP. I know you were off the air
for a while. Some of the other ones came back on.
One thing that's consistent. iHeart techno top of the line.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
Always.

Speaker 6 (36:02):
Our inconsistency is very consistent.

Speaker 3 (36:04):
Yes, always works, rarely a problem Ryan and with anything
and it you know, happens only with our show most
of the time, which is good.

Speaker 4 (36:14):
Glad to see that.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Well. The sad thing is they mess Bob and James
Town's call about the Reds and your breakdown of the Reds.
That was the sad part.

Speaker 3 (36:21):
Shay Gilgess Alexander second in the MVP race, comes in second.
Jokic wins three of the last four years, but close.

Speaker 4 (36:31):
But no cigar drew.

Speaker 6 (36:34):
Like many listening, I was disappointed. I saw some of
the NBA talking heads and former players defending a little
bit online. It's kind of saying, if he can't win
it this year, what else does the guy I gotta
do to take the thunder and have the season he
did to steal it from yok As good as jokis
just is, but I was I was root for Shay
and thought it was going to be his most of
the year.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
Amazing to me that a guy that most of the
year he was at Kentucky, he was considered to be
the second best player on the team. When the season started,
he was considered to be the second best point guard
on the team. Becomes the second best player in the NBA.
That is a pretty amazing rise if you think about it.

Speaker 1 (37:12):
He was brought to UK to be the backup for
quad A Green. That was his role and now.

Speaker 4 (37:17):
I mean think about that.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
In hindsight, he was Quahda Green's backup, yep, and he
ends up being second in the MVP race.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
Nobody, I probably not even cal Or saw what this
dude could do once he got to the NBA.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
He was unbelievable because he wasn't even a McDonald's All American,
was he not unless he got one of the year
committed to Kentucky Wan's.

Speaker 4 (37:39):
But I don't think so. I don't think he was.

Speaker 6 (37:41):
I mean, Kwade started the first third of that year.
He really blew up against Louisville. He might have already
had the starting job at that point, but that was
kind of his signature game.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
I remember he got traded. That's the other thing. I mean,
one team gave up on him.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
The Clippers gave up on that.

Speaker 3 (37:57):
I mean not because they didn't like him, but they
were getting I think Paul George and they traded him,
and now he ended up being what he is.

Speaker 1 (38:04):
We talked about when Shay was here. I remember talking
on this show how he would be able to use
these weird angles and get his body to a position
where he could get the ball off the glass. And
I remember thinking to myself, that's that'll that'll never work
in the NBA. It worked, and it works in the NBA.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
Not only does it work, it works amazing.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
Listen, that kid is he's so good and and most
people don't know because they're not on TV very much.
They will be now, I mean because they're they have
a chance to win the whole.

Speaker 4 (38:32):
Thing, but they most people haven't even seen him.

Speaker 6 (38:35):
I'm just as surprised by how marketable he is too.
I remember interviewing him and he was timid, you know,
just gotten here, didn't have a lot to say. And
now that commercial would shut Homer over and it's one
of every three commercials. I mean, yeah, he's like the
NBA fashion guy that's doing the GQ photo shoots. It's
just the kid that showed up in electiononouldn't have believed it,
wouldn't have believed.

Speaker 3 (38:54):
Not the same guy who's next Christian? Christian go ahead
thirty seconds.

Speaker 10 (38:58):
Hey man, I'm actually for I'm Harlan County and we're
going crazy down here. Just what a better story then
Mark Pope coming back bringing the top two guys in
the state championship that battled out in rup now on Kentucky.

Speaker 1 (39:13):
I mean, that's just a crazy first six great story.

Speaker 3 (39:16):
Reminds me of Dominique Hawkins, who basically threw the state
tournament played his way onto the UK roster.

Speaker 4 (39:24):
I think in some ways Trent Noah is like that too.

Speaker 10 (39:28):
I fully agree him and Willis is gonna be the next.

Speaker 3 (39:36):
You know, you haven't got about it, Shan, you haven't
got to do it a lot this show, right, You keep.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
Taking you keep taking their time. Let them talk. Yeah,
the next who are they going to be?

Speaker 6 (39:48):
He didn't get to finish.

Speaker 3 (39:49):
He said he was going to be the next buzzer buzzer,
it's anybody filling the blank.

Speaker 4 (39:58):
BJ thirty seconds go? Yeah, it was a was a
what's up?

Speaker 11 (40:02):
I was just calling the LS do coming. I just
wanted to clarify that he I think he was saving
face a little bit because we had the two top
two defensive tackles in the portal down here on a
recruiting visit and we lost. We got outbittd by you
Oklahoma and Miami.

Speaker 4 (40:18):
So oh.

Speaker 11 (40:20):
I think he just came out and said the same
face to get this, to get the fan base calm down.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
So I think he just said that because of that.

Speaker 11 (40:25):
Of course, paying players, but anyway.

Speaker 4 (40:35):
Perfect, Okay, that's good context, all right, because he did
mention the defensive line, so if.

Speaker 3 (40:40):
They did have two guys, they were outbidded for. But
he acted like they don't spend any money. And I
know that's a lot.

Speaker 4 (40:48):
Now.

Speaker 3 (40:48):
He might be right that they overspend or they weren't
going to overspend, but he acted like they wouldn't pay
any money at all.

Speaker 4 (40:54):
And that's stupid.

Speaker 1 (40:55):
Nobody believes that. Nobody believe that's coming from him, especially
in LSU. Not one word.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
Yeah, I mean LSU, Come on, they paid whenever one
person on text machine rights. All right, Matt, you pick
who else is going to be added to the roster.
You have to decide today. Jackson Robinson and I'll just
say and Lanier both. My wow, I think it's more

(41:23):
likely we get one than the other. But I think
it's more likely we get both than zero.

Speaker 4 (41:28):
How about that.

Speaker 6 (41:30):
I will, I didn't know that was within the rules.
I will just to be different, say Jackson Robinson and
the Woga poplar from Miami.

Speaker 4 (41:38):
That would also be great if he's another one.

Speaker 6 (41:40):
