Il peplum è un genere cinematografico molto in voga dalla seconda metà degli anni '50 alla prima metà degli anni '60, che unisce il fantastico e l'azione ad una narrazione storica ambientata nella Grecia o nella Roma antiche. Il peplum tuttavia non si è limitato al cinema, ne troviamo traccia anche in letteratura e lo vedremo parlando di alcune opere di Salgari e di un romanzo moderno, "Lex Arcana. Le spire del serpente eterno"
