"Mimesis. Il realismo nella letteratura occidentale" è il titolo di una delle opere centrali della critica letteraria contemporanea. Non è azzardato anzi definirla forse il testo che più di ogni altro ha segnato la critica contemporanea. L'autore è Eric Auerbach, che nella sua "Mimesis", ma soprattutto nei suoi "Studi su Dante" ha lasciato pagine indelebili sull'analisi del Dante poeta e pensatore, secondo Auerbach stesso, la mente più universale del suo tempo.
