Central bankers fight inflation by pushing up interest rates - but if they do that too fast or too soon they risk snuffing out the fragile post-Covid economic recovery. The second is starting to get gold fans excited. If fully implemented Basel 3 - which has started to be introduced in Europe but won't arrive in the UK until 2023 - promises a shake-up in bullion banks' capital reserve requirements. Basel 3 may impact the trading of unallocated gold. Some think the net result could be a higher gold price. But there is still plenty of time for Basel 3 to be watered down.
