I often thought about Mrs. Schulman, my fifth grade teacher, later on in life. I met her at Horace Mann Barnard, but after three years, and one spent commuting to Connecticut, I finally had to switch schools again. I was an academic disaster.

So, how did I finally reconnect with Mrs. Schulman in 2023? The pandemic gave me time to think about my past, the people who embraced and supported me, and who made a difference in my life. Ironically, I learned that Mrs. Schulman attended Syracuse University as did I. With the ease of a google search, I managed to locate her a few months ago, and we first connected by phone. To my delight, she sent me the yearbook from 5th grade. I did not have a copy of my yearbook because at 13 years old, there was a fire in my home and I lost everything. Seeing my 5th grade class picture was such a great memory…even though I did think I looked a little dorky back then.
