La storia della butch è spesso stata vista come la storia della lesbofobia al cinema. Se in un primo tempo è stata il capro espiatorio per la rappresentazione lesbofobica, poi è stata eliminata perché fisicamente non conforme alle regole del bel corpo e della buona educazione. Ecco perché serve ripercorrere un bel tratto della cinematografia per identificare nella butch la falla e non l’ingranaggio del sistema eterosessista.
