1. A totalitarian government inflicts pain on the people to get them to "believe" in its principles. However, Jesus took the pain upon himself for people to believe in his message of love.
2. Over the weekend Maria heard the personal testimony of a local priest who experienced a living encounter with Our Lord. Father Kevin said that this profoundly emotional experience was "simultaneously the greatest moment in my life and the most sorrowful." He was shown the true state of his soul and the tremendous love Jesus had for him. Although Father did not use this term himself, it was what some call an "illumination of conscience."
